According to the filtration method, produced water can be used as drinking water or ultra purified water for industrial, pharmaceutical and medical applications. To meet these needs many different methods of filtration can be applied: mechanical filtration, microfiltration, ultrafiltration, nanofiltration and reverse osmosis.
